Pea Exporting is now Underway!

This is an important way of adding value to the UK crop and depends upon the marketing knowledge of pulse specialists. The major markets in tonnage terms are for green seeded peas to Europe and these can be used for either human consumption or speciality animal feed.

The photographs shows peas being loaded at Port Sutton Bridge by Dalmark Grain Ltd.
They are destined for Ireland for use as micronized flaked products.

A further market is for marrowfat peas to the Far East. Quality requirements here are extremely demanding, but where samples have the necessary size, shape and colour a premium of up to twice the vegetable protein value can be paid to farmers. Farmers producing for this market invariably apply protective treatments against pea moth and produce-spoiling diseases, but further cleaning, grading and processing is required by pulse specialists.

English peas have an excellent reputation for quality and exports have been made to many countries.
